"Every year, around the scalp of the planet, the caribou run the same path of migration along the edge of the Arctic Circle. They are born with some innate sense that calls them to this path. And every year, along the way, packs of coyote wait to feed on the caribou. And every year, despite the danger, the caribou return and make their way."
Often nature makes difficult things very clear. What feels like confusion is frequently our human refusal to see things for what they are. What lesson do the caribou shout to us with the thunder from their hooves as they deepen the crown of the planet? They are evidence, even as we speak, of the fact that in every living thing there is an inner necessity that outweighs all consequence. For the caribou it is clear what it is. It is also very clear in our home right now.
We have had to turn off the news for the most part. Like the coyote, the danger in this world is loud and clear. Travelling can be a scary thing is some parts of this world, not to mention the politics both domestic and abroad. But like the caribou, the calling to adopt is deeper than the danger we face. Ken and I know without a shadow of a doubt - Kenneth Liam is a Caldwell.
Today marks his 11th month of being alive. Today we also celebrate 60 days of waiting for our Letter of Acceptance. A wait that should last 60-90 days. We are praying like heck Little Liam is healthy and happy and that this wait is closer to 60 than 90.
As we wait we prepare and "nest" as they call it. Here's a peek at little mans worldly room. We plan to teach baby Liam how amazing this world is and the many places he has come from and will go.
I am awfully proud of the above lampshade I made today.
What would have cost me $60 on etsy only cost $10.00 after a trip to Walmart!
The painting above is a staple in Will, Andy and Ken's boys rooms. It was painted by Jane Ellithorpe when the boys were younger in their glory days on the baseball field.
Liam's nursery is not nearly finished but its a far cry from the orphanage he is currently in. I need to remind myself of that at times. Our sweet family in North Carolina are hosting a shower next weekend in honor of Liam. I am overwhelmed to think how much he is already loved.
